If you are unable to see a simpleSUM in the Geocene mobile app, first attempt to press its button or tap it with an NFC reader. Detailed instructions can be found here:

If the device is still unresponsive, even after pressing its button or tapping it with an NFC reader, you can replace its batteries. simpleSUMs and Dots require alkaline AAA batteries (not rechargeable). We highly recommend using new, fresh batteries from a reputable brand such as Energizer or Duracell.
To replace the batteries:
Follow the instructions to open the case:
Gently pry the batteries from the holders. If you have trouble removing the batteries, try using the end of your screwdriver to gently pry them out from the top of the positive side of the battery. Take care not to puncture the battery or bend the battery holder.
Snap the new batteries into the battery holders, taking care to orient them correctly according to the diagram printed on the simpleSUM.
Follow the instructions to close the case:
