Collecting data from a simpleSUM requires the Geocene mobile app. Start by installing the app from Google Play (note that simpleSUM support is currently only available on our Android app). If you already have the app installed, please go to Google Play and ensure you have updated to the latest version. For more detailed instructions, see:
Next, you will need to create a Geocene account if you don’t already have one. You can do so on your mobile phone by following the “Register” link on the login screen of the mobile app. More detailed instructions can be found here:
Open the app and ensure you are logged in. If you are logged in, you should see the Devices page when opening the app.
Before you go to collect data from any simpleSUMs, ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your Android device. There are two ways to do this:
From Quick Settings
From the Settings app
To collect data from a simpleSUM, you need to get within Bluetooth range, typically less than 10 meters. As long as the device is turned on, you are logged in to the Geocene app, and Bluetooth is enabled, your device will collect the data automatically.
However, before you walk away, we highly recommend that you open the app and ensure that the data has been transferred from all of the nearby simpleSUMs. Each device in the list will either say "Data Available" with a yellow arrow or "Data Transferred" with a green checkmark.
